Get Creative

About
Get Creative is a campaign run by a group of cultural organisations to celebrate and support the everyday creativity happening in homes and public spaces. From guerrilla gardening in your street to paint by numbers in your local library, via nail art, yarn bombing and singing in a choir we’re building an actively creative UK that caters for everyone of every age, background and ability.

Get Creative aims to inspire people to try something new at home or at a Get Creative event and to encourage people to share their own examples of everyday creativity. The campaign works with Get Creative Champions to create participatory events that are accessible for everyone and to develop local networks that create new collaborations and relationships.

Get Creative has a Steering Group that meets monthly and includes representatives from the following organisations: BBC, What Next?, Voluntary Arts, Fun Palaces, Crafts Council, Family Arts Campaign, 64 Million Artists, Creative Scotland, Arts Council Wales and Creative People and Places.

 Local Networks
The campaign is devolving and wants to empower Champions to develop local and sustainable Get Creative networks (supported by the GC Steering Group).  We would now like to work on improving local connections that are more beneficial to Champions and their participants. We are developing networks that will put individuals and groups in contact with other creative and community organisations near to them and to further develop relationships with their local BBC. We will be starting (for now!) in Bristol, Liverpool, Nottingham, York and Scotland by hosting events to try and test out how these networks could operate effectively. The first set of dates and links to register are listed below.

These initial meetings will be opportunities to hear more about what Get Creative has planned for 2017, to network with each other and make connections, and to connect with a key contact from the BBC in each location. They are open to anyone and everyone.

Get Creative Weekend 2017
There will be a second national Get Creative Weekend over 7-9 April 2017 to create a UK-wide moment when we get everyone creating – be that from their bedrooms or from their local museums, parks, potteries or libraries. If you have a venue it could mean encouraging people to get creative in your lobbies and cafes, providing a space to an organisation or individual without a venue or hosting your own activity. If you don’t have a venue we’d like to help you find one through the help of the local networks.
